1986 Princess 35 Fly

This well equipped and well maintained boat is a very good example of how well Princess made these boats back in late 80's. She has a great inventory featuring 2 X VHF, 2 X sounder (inc. Forward Looking),  2 X GPS, 2 X TV (one with DVD), Autopilot, AIS the list goes on. The twin Volvo TAMD41A's were last serviced in July 2019 and have approx 1600 hours run on these solid 200hp units.

The boat has been used over the last few years to cruise the UK and French coasts, and Inland waterways of Northern France. Ideally located to continue the French adventure or as easily heading back to the UK coast.

Stern Features

Bathing Platform and Transom Gate

These are two of Growltiger's most unique features.

Most Princess 35s have a small wooden bathing platform and no transom gate, so you have to climb over the cockpit edge to get in.

Growltiger has a large and very solid fibreglass bathing plaform supported by several stainless steel struts,  It has an integral folding bathing ladder.  The starboard side of the platform currently houses a large storage box which is useful for storing hoses, cleaning materials, petrol cans etc.

The large central transom gate has strong stainless steel hinges and can be secured in the open or closed position.

The boat thus has excellent accessibility as it is possible to walk from the bathing platform, through the cockpit and into the saloon on the same level and with no obstacles.

Cockpit and Awning

This is another area in which Growltiger differs from the average P35.  Most of the boats have a fixed seat to the rear of the cockpit which takes up a lot of space and is not very comfortable.  This has been removed on Growltiger leaving a larger cockpit which can accommodate a good sized table and several really comfortable reclining chairs.  There is a gas locker to port and several other small lockers for storage of warps and the like.

After owning the boat for a year or two we decided to dispense with the existing cockpit cover and have a new awning and framework custom made.  This rolls up in several sections and offers great flexibility, and a comfortable sitting area even in inclement conditions.

Subsequently I have fitted two (removable) solar panels to the top of the awning to keep the batteries charged when we area away from shore power.

There is a ladder to the flybridge, and a fresh water shower for rinsing off after swimming.

There is also a deck wash pump.

Flybridge
The Flybridge The Flybridge has a two-person bench seat with backrest in the driving position, and an L-shaped seat to the left.  Both seats have cushions.  There is a bimini for sun protection, which can easily be folded down.

Two Volvo engine displays with RPM gauge and alarms

Helm and two single lever throttles.

Rudder position indicator

Raytheon/Autohelm Depth and Speed instruments

Autohelm ST6000+ Autopilot controller

Anchor windlass control

There is a cover to fit over the drivers seat and instrument console when these are not in use.

McMurdo 406MHz epirb with automatic release mounted to rear of flybridge.

Two life rings.

The radar arch - with radar scanner - has been removed to reduce clearance for inland waterways use.  It is stored in a garage in Poole, UK and can be made available if required.

Engines
Engines and Transmission Growltiger has twin Volvo TAMD41A diesel engines.  These are 6 cylinder engines with turbochargers and aftercoolers.  They are rated at 200HP each.

There are no engine hour meters fitted but I have been led to believe that each engine as now run for around 1600 hrs.

Growltiger's engines have been serviced in July 2019 by Demolin in Rouen.

The engines are fitted with Volvo MS4 gearboxes, shaft drives with Volvo shaft seals, and 4-blade bronze propellors.

Access to the engines through the saloon floor is excellent.
