The Loch Long One Design is a small wooden sloop rigged keelboat. The design was commissioned by members of Loch Long Sailing Club to mark the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth and to replace their existing sailing craft with a low cost design which was capable of safe use in the local conditions found on Loch Longand the Firth of Clyde. The lines of the Swedish Stjärnbåt were adapted by James Croll to add a counter stern, alter construction from clinker to carvel and allow a permanent backstay to be fitted.
Known until 2014 as ‘Rose’, Loch Long No. 122. Now called ‘The Hare’. Comprehensive refurbishment done over three years at the Suffolk Yacht Harbour, Levington (2014/15) and Fox’s Boatyard, Ipswich (2016/17), including new decks, painting, brightwork, bilge paint, new teak cockpit soles, splining, four new frames, all deck fittings screwed and bedded down on arbokol (documentation available).
Fore deck has been shortened to create more room in cockpit. Easily returned to class dimensions.Further information on the Loch Long class can be found at http://www.lochlong.net/about/
