PROPER AND SOLID TUG - TANDBERG POLAR - built in 1967 by LAMONT - PORT GLASGOW, UNITED KINGDOM.
This boat sailed round trip Norway-Canada 2014-2018, and contributed to the salvage of Roald Amundsen’s Polar ship Maud!
Maud, named for Queen Maud of Norway, was a ship built for Roald Amundsen for his second expedition to the Arctic. Designed for his intended voyage through the Northeast Passage, the vessel was built in Asker, a suburb of the capital, Oslo.
The vessel has been in storage since it’s return to Norway in 2018. Main engine and all auxiliary engines have had regular start-ups. The boat was newly classed the same spring and did an over-Atlantic tow without complications. Since then, the main engine and all auxiliary engines have had regular start-up without complications.
The boat has no significant deficiencies. But if you plan for longer trips, the vessel must of course be checked. The boat is most likely prepared with regular inspections from the Norwegian Maritime Directorate, the same way it was done before the project to bring home Maud. This is the usual procedure in advance of all towing assignments.
Potential buyers must inspect the boat before final purchase.
